Edmonton ready to host 2015 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships

For the first time in thirty years, the Canadian Masters Badminton Championships are back in Edmonton, Alberta. The event, which runs April 20 to 25 at the Royal Glenora Club, will see over three hundred athletes from around the world compete for badminton supremacy in age groups ranging from 35+ to 80+.

Matches will take place at the Royal Glenora Club’s first class badminton facilities. In addition to five dedicated badminton courts, five portable courts have been set up on cushioned floors in the club’s state of the art tennis courts. Dedicated massage therapists will be on site for the Masters athletes throughout the tournament. Tournament participants will also have access to all of the Royal Glenora Club’s other amenities, including the fitness room, pool, steam room, and squash and tennis courts.

In addition to providing excellent facilities through the host venue, tournament organizers have taken special care to ensure the Masters athletes enjoy their time off the courts as well.

“We are thrilled to host such a prestigious event in Edmonton,” said Joyce Pittman, Co-Chair of the 2015 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships Organizing Committee. “From the courts to the social calendar, we look forward to welcoming competitors from around Canada and the world for a week of competitive play in a fun and friendly atmosphere.”

Badminton Canada President Peter Golding expressed confidence that the tournament organizers would deliver a gold standard event for the Masters athletes.

“The Masters Championship is an important event on the Badminton Canada calendar,” said Golding. “We are pleased to have a strong host like the Royal Glenora Club and its volunteers to organize the championship this year.”

The stage is set for a fun and successful tournament in Edmonton. As the qualifying event for the 2015 BWF Senior Championship in Helsingborg, Sweden, the 2015 Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships are sure to bring out the fiery and competitive spirits of our Masters athletes.
