Canadian Athletes Compete at the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2023

Eleven Canadian athletes join the world's best at the BWF World Championships 2023 in Copenhagen, Denmark from August 21-27. 

Badminton Canada’s top athletes are heading to the BWF World Championships 2023 in just one week. The captivating event will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark starting August 21st.  

Canada will be well represented with 11 athletes taking the court throughout the tournament. Badminton Canada coaches Mike Butler and Mario Santoso will be accompanying the athletes to Denmark. 

Competing is Men’s Singles will be Brian Yang and B.R. Sankeerth. Brian's opening match will be against Germany’s Kai Schaefer while B.R. will start with an opening match against El Salvador’s Uriel Francisco Canjura Artiga.  

In Women’s Singles, Michelle Li, seeded 14th, will start her tournament with a bye into Round 2. Canadian teammate Wendy Zhang will start her opening match against Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark.  

Fellow Candian Men’s Doubles players Adam Dong & Nyl Yakura, and Kevin Lee & Ty Lindeman will both get the opportunity to beat Scotland in their respective opening matches. Joining the Doubles action will be Women’s Doubles Catherine Choi & Josephine Wu and Mixed Doubles Ty Lindeman & Josephine Wu, and Nyl Yakura & Crystal Lai.
