Canada Sweeps Gold at the XXVI Pan American Championships 2023

Canadians dominate in exciting week of competition.

It was a golden week for the Canadian team at the XXVI Pan American Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.

The Canadians picked up where they left off in February, when they won the Pan Am Cup team competition. Mere months later, Canada has emerged victorious again, claiming a total of 7 medals - five gold and two bronze at the Pan Am Championships. This marks only the third time in history where Canada has come away with the gold in all five events at this competition, joining the teams of 1991 and 2016.

In Men's Singles, Brian Yang defeated Uriel Artiga of El Salvador convincingly in straight games to claim the gold (21-10, 21-5). In Women's Singles, Michelle Li battled USA's Beiwen Zhang, closing out a competitive first game before dominating the second en route to her gold medal. (21-19, 21-9)

A competitive week of doubles play resulted in a total of five medals for the high-achieving Canadians. In and all-Canadian Men's Doubles final, Adam Dong & Nyl Yakura battled Ty Lindeman & Kevin Lee for three games, with Dong and Yakura coming out on top. (21-10, 16-21, 22-20) Canada's gold in Women's Doubles came from Catherine Choi & Josephine Wu, who defeated USA's F. Corbet & A. Lee, (21-14, 21-18).

In Mixed Doubles action, Canada once again advanced two teams to the final. Joshua Hurlburt-Yu & Rachel Honderich beat Ty Lindeman & Josephine Wu after a back-and-forth three game tilt (22-20, 18-21, 21-17).

Join us in congratulating our Canadian athletes on their historic performances!
