"We are incredibly excited to be awared the Super 500 level" said Ken Poole, President of Badminton Canada. "Each year we work closely with Jeff Bell and his team at Badminton Alberta to present a better event annually. Due to the hard work and dedication from our event staff, we are proud to be hosting the highest level of world badminton in the Pan American region."
Through hosting the YONEX Canada Open in Calgary for nearly a decade, Badminton Alberta is proud about the progress of Canada's marquee event.
"Badminton Alberta is thrilled to bring an event of this caliber to Calgary" continued Jeff Bell, Tournament Director and Executive Director at Badminton Alberta. "This increase mirrors the growth and level of performance we are seeing from our Senior and Next Gen teams" added Mike Luck, High-Performance Manager. "Our athletes are now among the worlds top players in mulitple events. As we look ahead to Paris 2024 and LA2028, a BWF Super 500 level event hosted in Canada starting in 2023 is directly aligned with our coninuous high-performance development."
Dates for the 2023 edition are still tobe confirmed.
