The YONEX Canada Para-badminton International returns to Ottawa, Canada in 2022

Ottawa, Ontario will host the second edition of the YONEX Canada Para-badminton International from June 8-12, 2022

Badminton Canada is excited for the return of elite Para Badminton competition to Canada, with the hosting of the 2022 the Canada Para Badminton International from June 5th-12th, 2022 at the University of Ottawa’s Montpetit Hall. With an amazing location in the heart of Ottawa, the event will be an exceptional experience for athletes, spectators and volunteers!

This will be the second edition of the event and it is part of the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) Para Badminton World Circuit 2022. As one of only four Level 1 events, the Canada Para Badminton International will feature athletes from across the globe competing for glory and international ranking points towards qualification for the 2022 BWF Para Badminton World Championships to be held in Japan in November.

The 2019 event was a huge success due to the amazing support from Ottawa Tourism, the University of Ottawa and the many volunteers who gave their time during the competition. The City of Ottawa is a perfect location for the event, with Mayor Jim Watson stating "I am proud that Ottawa was selected by the Badminton World Federation to host the 2022 YONEX Canada Para-Badminton International. The University of Ottawa is an excellent venue to welcome the best talent from across the globe for this unique and thrilling event. I look forward to welcoming them all this summer!"

Ottawa Tourism is again a driving force behind the delivery of the event and Badminton Canada is thankful for their generous and professional assistance with hosting. “Ottawa Tourism is very pleased to see such an impressive event come to our city,” said Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism, “and we and our partners will roll out the welcome mat for visiting athletes, coaching staff, families, and fans.”

Over the coming months, Badminton Canada will be recruiting volunteers to deliver the best possible experience for participants and spectators, and we encourage anyone interested in helping to contact parainternational@badminton.ca  . You can follow news about the event on the Badminton Canada website.

Come out and show your support these amazing athletes as we welcome the return of International Para Badminton to Canada at the University of Ottawa’s Montpetit Hall, June 5th-12th, 2022!
