Badminton Canada Announces Revised Tournament Calendar

Badminton Canada announces new dates for National Championships, Junior National Championships, and more!

Badminton Canada announced today its revised schedule for the remainder of the 2021/22 season. The schedule can be accessed here.

In December 2021, Badminton Canada was required to postpone all events in January and February 2022 including the Yonex Canadian Senior & Para Championships scheduled for early February 2022 in Winnipeg. Badminton Canada’s revised calendar will culminate with a combined Senior/ParaU23/Junior Championship in early July 2022 in Edmonton AB.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer our players the opportunity to play the full season as we initially planned prior to the Omicron outbreak” stated Joe Morissette, Executive Director of Badminton Canada. “This schedule reflects a significant and concerted effort by our staff, event hosts and partners to ensure that a full season occurs.”

The revised schedule (below) does extend the Badminton Canada’s domestic season until July 10. However, this later end date was required in to accommodate provincial badminton championships as well as various personal activities of Badminton Canada’s player population such as school exams, graduations, etc.

Badminton Canada would like its participants to note that due to the postponement of the Yonex U11-U23 Junior National Championships until July 2022, Badminton Canada will no longer include the results of this Championships in the selection criteria for the 2022-23 Yonex Junior National Team, and the 2022 Junior Pan American Championship Team.

“Unfortunately, with Junior Nationals now held in July, the timelines no longer allow us to include the Championships in our Junior National Team selections” said Mike Luck, Sport Operations Manager. “We hope to select our Junior National U15 Team after the completion of the Yonex Ontario Junior Elite, and the selection for U17 and U19 Team’s after the completion of the Yonex Western Senior Elite.”

Badminton Canada’s General Competition Regulations will also need to be temporarily modified to accommodate the changes in the competition schedule. These changes will be published in March 2022 and circulated to Badminton Canada’s membership.
