Over the past number of months, badminton in Canada has returned to some normalcy; clubs are resuming programs, events are being hosted both nationally and provinically, and Canadian athletes are attending international events more frequently. With the Badminton World Federation and Badminton Pan Am resleasing their 2022 calendar of events this fall, Badminton Canada has updated an number of its selection critieria for National Teams and select BWF and Pan Am events.

• 2022 Pan Am Individual Championships
• 2022 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals
• 2022 Commonwealth Games
• 2022 World University Games
• 2022-23 Para-badminton National Team

 

Badminton Canada has also released the 2022-23 Junior National Team selection criteria, along with the respective junior events; 2022 Junior Pan American Championships and 2022 BWF World Junior Championships earlier this fall.

"Understanding that we are all still navigating through COVID-19, Badminton Canada is very pleased to see our clubs, provinces, events and programs return to some normalcy this fall" said Sport Operations Manager, Mike Luck. "With some of our events and high-performance programs taking a break in 2021, we plan to be back in 2022 at all levels."

"Badminton Canada is also pleased to announce the addition of a Next Gen Team to our high-performance program. After review this past year, BCan has identified a gap in our high-performance athlete development pathway as athletes transition from the junior to the senior and international levels. Athletes  selected for the team will recieve targeted support from Badminton Canada in terms of education, guidance, sponsorship and some financial support."

With the Badminton Canada High-Peformance Committee finalizing team selections, the 2022 Next Gen Team will be announced in the coming weeks; with benefits starting as early as February 2022!
