Michelle Li competes this week at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok, Thailand!
From January 27-31, 2021, Michelle Li will be competing along the rest of the worlds top badminton athletes at the HSBC World Tour Finals in Bangkok, Thailand. This event begins only a few days after the completion of the YONEX & Toyota Thailand Open 2021 events that occurred in the two weeks prior to the Finals.
After arriving in Thailand on January 4th with a number of other Canadian National Team athletes and alongside Head Coach, Mike Butler; the team was under strict quarantine procedures to limit the risk of a breakout within these events. These measures created a safe environment for the athletes and personnel involved, but it created a new set of challenges for the athletes. The strenuous lifestyle of social isolation from others, set meals and eating times, small windows of training and being outside of a hotel room can be mentally challenging.
"I am proud of the mental toughness our athletes showed throughout our time in Thailand" said National Head Coach, Mike Butler. "The social isolation and strict itinerary's presented a unique challenge that our athletes embraced a tried to overcome as best they could. This is great preparation for them as this is an example of what is to come in the final months of the Olympic Qualifying period."
As Michelle Li says goodbye to her teammates, she enters the fourth week of the tour, and perhaps the biggest event. She has been placed in Group A for Women's Singles, along with Carolina Marin, An Se Young, and Evgeniya Kosetskaya.
