Canadian Athletes Head to Thailand

All you need to know about the YONEX & Toyota Thailand Open 2021

Seven Canadian athletes are in Bangkok, Thailand for the YONEX & Toyota Thailand Open 2021. These two events will span from Tuesday January 12th to Sunday January 17th, and Tuesday January 19th to Sunday January 24th 2021 respectively. Among the athletes competing include; Michelle Li, Jason Ho-Shue, Nyl Yakura, Rachel Honderich, Kristen Tsai, Josephine Wu, Joshua Hurlburt-Yu and Catherine Choi, and are led by National Team Head Coach, Mike Butler. 

To ensure that the tournament is safe and does not record a breakout of COVID-19, the BWF in collaboration with the Thailand Badminton Association have enforced strict health measures. These include and are not limited to; a result of a negative test prior to depature from home country, test negative upon arrival in Thailand, coordinated team travel, regular COVID testing, and ongoing compliance with general health guidelines. Additionally, all individuals related to the event including, athletes, coaches, officials, support staff, hotel staff, etc. are mandated to stay within the host bubble for the duration of the tournaments.

"Although these health and safety measure pose a new type of challenge for the athletes, it is good experience for our athletes of what is to come in the next six months leading up to and including the Olympics" said Head Coach, Mike Butler.
