Canadian Para-Badminton Players Head to South America

Canadians competed in both the Brazil and Peru Para-badminton Internationals

This month Canadian athletes attended the Brazil Para-badminton International from February 10th to the 15th, then made their way to the Peru Para-badminton International from February 18th to the 23rd.

The Canadians in attendance in Sao Paulo, Brazil were:

  • Bernard Lapointe (WH2)
  • Pascal Lapointe (SL4)
  • Olivia Meier (SL4)

Joining them in Lima, Peru were:

  • Anthony Vibol Hay (SS6)
  • Justin Kendrick (SS6)
  • Zachary Leliever (SS6)
  • Emilien Langelier (SS6)
  • Tristan Lelievre (SS6)
  • William Roussy (SL3)

The competition at these events was at the highest standard as both these events were 2 of only 14 offering qualification points for the 2020 Summer Paralympics. 

Canadians brought home 3 medals in total, all from the Peru Para-badminton International. William Roussy claimed bronze in Men’s Doubles SL3/SL4 partnered by German Nils Boening, Justin Kendrick also won bronze alongside the USA’s Dawson McClure in Men’s Doubles SS6, and Bernard Lapointe claimed a third bronze for Canada in Mixed Doubles WH1/WH2 with Egyptian Shaimaa Samy Ab D Ellatif.
