BWF Lifetime Achievement Award Presented to Mr. Jean-Guy Poitras

On May 23, 2019, Mr. Jean-Guy Poitras was presented with the BWF Lifetime Achievement Award at the Annual General Meeting in Nanning, China. 

Badminton Canada Hall of Fame member Mr. Jean-Guy Poitras was presented with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at a gala dinner during BWF’s Annual General Meeting in Nanning, China on May 23rd.

Jean-Guy Poitras, who is from Edmonston, New Brunswick had a career of more than four decades as a national and international Technical Official, working for Badminton Canada, Pan Am Badminton and the BWF. His career in the umpire chair spanned the very first match in the inaugural Pan Am Championships in 1977, through three Commonwealth Games, and in medal matches at the Sydney Olympics 2000.

He later served as BWF Umpire Assessor from 2003 to 2016 and chaired the BWF Umpire Assessors Panel from 2004 to 2016. He contributed a great deal to the current high standard of BWF umpires and the education system now in place for umpires.
