Preparing for New Sport Safety and Respect Initiatives Across Canada

In anticipation of new rules and regulations around safety and respect in sport, Interpodia announces new features and partner integrations to its revolutionary sport technology software platform.

Vancouver, BC (May 6, 2019) – In March, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport announced funding to the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) to help combat harassment, abuse and discrimination within the Canadian Sport community.  Ensuring all sports are safe and respectful to all involved is paramount for Interpodia, a company that provides comprehensive membership and registration technology to clients throughout the sport community.

Sport bodies in Canada understand the importance of proper administration and documentation of background checks in order to reduce the risk to participants, coaches and volunteers. Many sport organizations already have processes in place to protect their athletes, but the processes are often disjointed and records are stored inconsistently between the various levels of sport organizations, from national down to the local club level. This means no comprehensive system to prevent abuse across all sports and levels, but Interpodia is excited to be at the forefront of these discussions while addressing these concerns for its partners in sport.

A new nationwide code of conduct is in the works for sports across Canada. As part of the federal government’s commitment to this issue, there are also new requirements for National Sporting Organizations to ensure mandatory training for coaches, athletes, volunteers and all other persons in contact with athletes, as well as the implementation of rules and procedures to ensure their protection.  Interpodia has the modular technology and integration tools to help sport organizations embrace these new requirements in an efficient and flexible manner.

“It’s an exciting time for sport right now as technology has proven to help sports organizations reduce administration and risk. The mechanisms and systems are in place to integrate various specialists that can help sports address the concerns of abuse and respect in their organizations,” said Phil Mowatt, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Interpodia. “Our technology is ready to help.”

“All Canadians deserve to participate and compete in a sport environment free from harassment, abuse or discrimination, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, race, religion, language, age and ability,” said the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport in the March 2019 release. “Harassment of any kind is completely unacceptable. That’s why our government is working with our sport partners to ensure the safety and security of athletes, coaches, and officials, and I know the Safe Sport Summit Series will contribute to that goal.”

Interpodia’s modular platforms can integrate e-learning, first aid training and coaching management technology into already existing member management and registration software portals to better protect clients across multiple sports. Many sports are currently using the Interpodia portal to better protect their athletes, parents, coaches and volunteers.

Working collaboratively with early adopters Triathlon Canada, Cycling Canada and many PSOs has been integral to the development Interpodia’s CCN platform; the leadership teams of these sports have been proactively embracing these changes and working with Interpodia to implement the overall technology to support the future of sport. In recent years Badminton Canada and Equestrian Canada, have begun working with Interpodia to bring these advancements to their latest sport specific platforms PlayerWeb and HorseReg.

“We’re thrilled to start using Interpodia’s technology for member, coach and official registration and management ,” said Joe Morissette, Executive Director of Badminton Canada. “Administering this type of service is time consuming and sensitive and the team at Interpodia delivers this service seamlessly.”

For over a decade Interpodia has been improving the membership experience for athletes, while reducing risk and streamlining administrative processes for sport federations, by developing powerful, modular and flexible registration platforms for its clients. Interpodia is poised to embrace new sport safety requirements and help sport organizations ensure safety for all involved in the sport community.
