2019 CCAA National Badminton Championships Results

Results from the 2019 CCAA National Badminton Championships, March 7-9th in Bible Hill, Novia Scotia.

The 2019 CCAA National Badminton Championships were hosted this past weekend in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia, where Canada’s top collegiate badminton players competed to be some of the best student-athletes in the country. The championships concluded on Sunday, March 10th which saw the CCAA crown champions in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles events. There were many impressive performances over the weekend including ones from CCAA Badminton All-Canadians Takeisha Wang, Desmond Wang, and Ramnish Kumar.

Mixed Doubles – CCAA Badminton All Canadians Takeisha Wang and Desmond Wang (Concordia) capped off a dominating tournament to defeating Mike Brown and Angeline Alvair (George Brown) 21-6, 21-11, to claim the mixed doubles gold medal. Chirag Dave and Jia Yi Feng (Centennial) faced off against another pair of CCAA Badminton All-Canadians in Sam White and Sam Lawther (UKC). Dave and Feng would end up winning the bronze medal beating White and Lawther 21-11,21-14.

Women’s Doubles – In the gold medal match Victoria Duong and Chloe Rowe (Number) defeated the pair of Bea Bernardo and Ryo Kuramochi (NAIT) 21-12, 21-12 to capture the women’s doubles gold medal. In bronze medal action Helen Ngu and Han Pham (Mount Allison) defeated Kaylee Morris and Kassidy Turcotte (Dal AC) in a two straight matched to claim the women’s doubles bronze.

Men’s Doubles – Jeffery Ko and Ronuelle Mendina (NAIT) won the men’s doubles gold medal over Bryce Manson and Ben Van Ryn (UKC) 21-19, 17-21, 21-19 in a dramatic back and forth match. Arpit Taneja and Ayubu Touray (Humber) rallied back after their semi final loss to defeat Alex Chao and Eric Kern (George Brown) to take home the bronze medal.

Women’s Singles – Eyota Kwan (NAIT) capped off a dominant tournament by defeating Ann Hoang (George Brown) 21-16, 21-12 to be crowned the women’s double champion. In the bronze medal match Sam Hsu (NAIT) took down Rachel Wong (UTM) in 2 straight games 21-16, 21-19, this was a thrilling bronze medal match right down to the last point.

Men’s Singles – The gold medal match saw Humber’s Ramnish Kumar outlast Concordia’s Nicolas Pittman to capture the gold medal 19-21,21-12,21-15. Kumar was down after the first game but rallied back to end the tournament in dramatic fashion. Narayan Ramdhani (Kings) defeated Yuge Zeng (George Brown) 21-15, 21-13, in the bronze medal match to capture the third-place finish.
