RA Centre to host 2019 & 2020 Yonex Canadian National Championships

Ottawa, Ontario welcomes Canada's best athletes in 2019 & 2020

The City of Ottawa is set to host the 2019 & 2020 Yonex Canadian National Badminton Championships at the RA Centre in the end of January 2019 and 2020. The RA Centre (operated by the RA, an Ottawa based not-for-profit) is one of the largest sport and leisure centres in Ottawa, and home to the ‘House of Sport’ – a collection of Canada’s National Sport offices. With over 100 of Canada’s top athletes anticipated to be in attendance, Badminton Canada in partnership with the RA Centre are pleased to welcome the badminton community to our Nations Capital.

“The RA welcomes the athletes, support staff, volunteers and spectators participating in the 2019/2020 Yonex National Badminton Championships” said Tosha Rhodenizer, Chief Executive Officer of the RA. “Badminton is a big part of the RA family with 600 enthusiastic and active Club members. We are proud to facilitate this showcase of excellence and competition and host all these amazing athletes. We believe supporting this exciting event will inspire others to take up the sport and strive to compete at a high level.”

Once the host of the Canada Open, and home to Badminton Olympians such as Mike Bitten and Doris Piche, the RA Centre welcomes a new generation of players like three-time reigning national champion Jason Ho-Shue (ON), Nyl Yakura (ON), Kristen Tsai (BC), and top 16 in the world Michelle Li (ON) to be in attendance.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing the 2019 and 2020 Yonex National Championships to the RA Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. Having our
athletes compete at our Nations Capital will instill an extra sense of pride as they step on court” said Anil Kaul, President of Badminton Canada. "I also want to thank Badminton Ontario, the RA Centre, the Organizing Committee, and all the volunteers and sponsors for their dedication towards these Championships.”
