XXX Pan American Junior Championships 2022
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Team Event: July 14-16, 2022
Individual Event: July 18-22, 2022

Introduction

Badminton Canada is excited to be re-launching our Junior National Team for the 2022-23 season! With the past two editions of the Pan American Junior Championships being cancelled due to COVID-19, BCan is ready to select a Junior National Team to represent Canada at the end of May 2022. It is important to note that BCan will be unable to use the results from the 2022 U11-U23 Junior National Championships due to the registration timelines for the event. All selected athletes must hold a valid Canadian passport, and meet the eligibility requirements of both Team Canada and the Pan American Junior Championships.

Pan Am Junior Team Selection

U19: Selection for the U19 age group will be after the completion of the YONEX Western Senior Elite (May 27-29, 2022). Badminton Canada will be selecting players for both the Team and Individual Event to represent Canada at the Pan Am Junior Championships 2022. 4 MS, 4 WS, 2 MD, 2 WD, 4 XD spots are to be filled for the Individual Event, and a maximum of 10 Males and 10 Females will be selected for the Team Event.

U15 & U17: Selection for the U15 & U17 age groups will be after the completion of the YONEX Ontario Junior Elite (May 20-22, 2022). Badminton Canada will select 4 MS, 4 WS, 2 MD, 2 WD, 4 XD for each age group to compete in the Individual Event.

U13: Selection for the U13 age group will be selected by the Bcan High-Performance Committee. Without the results of the 2022 U13 Junior National Championships, BCan will use the U13 provincial rankings, results from U15 National events, and Provincial Championship results where applicable. Badminton Canada will select 4 MS, 4 WS, 2 MD, 2 WD, 4 XD for each age group to compete in the Individual Event.

U11: There is no selection for the U11 age group this season. Badminton Pan America will not be hosting the U11 age group in the 2022 Pan Am Junior Championships.

Coaching & Parents/Guardians

Badminton Canada will be inviting six Team Canada coaches to support athletes at the Pan American Junior Championships. These coaches are responsible for the athletes' performance on the field of play only. Parents or signed guardians are to be responsible for underage athletes (under 18 years old) outside of the competition. All minor-aged athletes on the JNT will be required to submit the name of their parent/guardian to be in attendance.

Coach selection for Pan American Junior Championships 2022 will be the same timelines as athlete selection. For coaches that are interested and meet the coach selection criteria, they are encouraged to apply.

Arrival dates & Travel Information

There are many options for travelling from Canada to Santo Domingo. We ask all selected athletes and parents to make their own travel arrangements and try their best to meet the timelines below. We recommend arrival times that are mid-day to facilitate hotel check-in. Early morning arrivals may not have access to their room or may have to book the night before arrival.

Team Event: Arrival July 12th; practice for the Team event will be on July 13th only. The competition will be July 14-16, 2022.

Individual Event (U13-U19): Arrival July 16th; practice for the Individual Event will be July 17th only. The competition will be July 18-22, 2022.

Athletes are free to schedule their own departure upon elimination from the tournament. However, we encourage all players to consider staying until the Finals to get the full experience of the Championships.
