Wayne Macdonnell

 

 

 

Wayne Macdonnell was born in Vancouver on June 28th , 1940. Wayne soon established himself as a contender for national competition by winning 5 BC Provincial Singles Championships (1961,2,4,6,70). At the age of 21 Wayne became the Canadian Singles Champions claiming the title a record 6 consecutive times 1962-1967. Wayne also won the 1963 Canadian Doubles Championship (with Bert Fergus). Over this 7 year championship period Wayne did not lose to any Canadian player in any of the more than 65 tournaments he played.

In addition to his success in Canada Wayne won the Washington State Singles Championship 14 times between 1958 1nd 1975. Wayne also won the US Open Mixed in 1966 (with Tyna Barinaga) and the Irish Open Singles in 1970.

Wayne represented Canada  in the International Championships – Thomas Cup – over a 15 year period from 1961 – 1976
