Badminton Alberta hosts Canada Open in 2019 & 2020

Badminton Alberta to host the Yonex Canada Open in Calgary through 2020!

Calgary, Alberta – Badminton Canada and Badminton Alberta are pleased to announce that the Yonex Canada Open will once again be held at the Winsport Arena in Calgary, Alberta in 2019 and 2020. The Yonex Canada Open is an historic, world-class badminton event dating back to 1957, and has featured Olympians and top world ranked players such as Lee Chong Wei (MAS), Kento Momota (JPN) and 3-time Canada Open Champion, Michelle Li (CAN) in recent years.

 

“Badminton Alberta is excited to host the Yonex Canada Open once again in Calgary, Alberta. We have received strong interest from athletes, and tremendous support from our volunteers, sponsors and Badminton Alberta staff who organize a fantastic event annually” said Mike Powell, President of Badminton Alberta. “Thanks to the outstanding work and dedication by our host committee, our goal is to continually improve the Yonex Canada Open every year we host”.

 

The relationship between Badminton Canada, Badminton Alberta and their supporting partners has been essential in continuing to host a top level BWF event in Canada. Yonex Canada, Tourism Calgary, and the Winsport Arena have played crucial roles in enhancing the event every year.

The 2018 Yonex Canada Open is from June 19th – 24th at the Winsport Arena in Calgary and will feature athletes such as Sameer Verma (IND), Marcus Ellis (ENG), and once again Canada’s own, Michelle Li - who looks to claim the Women’s Singles title for the fourth time. Tickets for the Yonex Canada Open are available for purchase on Canadaopen.net, or on site at the door.
