Badminton Manitoba to Host 2019 Yonex U23/Junior National Championships

Canada Games Sport for Life Cenre, Winnipeg, MB - May 2019

Badminton Canada and Badminton Manitoba are pleased to announce that the 2019 Yonex U23 & Junior National Championships will be held at the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the spring of 2019!

The Canada Games Sport for Life Centre is a hub for amateur sport in Manitoba. With a brand new and top-quality hardwood surface, 12 badminton courts to national regulations, ample space for spectators, and additional rooms for athlete, official, and coach comfort, it is no wonder this facility was a top choice to host the rest of the country. It houses all of Sport Manitoba's programs and services plus over 60 sport organizations which collectively serve over 190,000 athletes, 100,000 program participants, and approximately 25,000 volunteers, coaches, and officials. With over 300 athletes from across the country expected to be in attendance for the event, Badminton Manitoba is thrilled to welcome the top Canadian Junior athletes to Winnipeg!

“We are thrilled to be hosting the 2019 Yonex U23 & Junior National Championships next May” said David Harrison, President of Badminton Manitoba. “Thanks to Badminton Canada, and our partnership with Yonex Canada, we are able to provide a top-level event to our badminton community here in Winnipeg.”

The event will bring together top junior athletes from across Canada and will feature junior prospects like Brian Yang (ON), who has been undefeated for two straight seasons. Brian will compete against talented Manitoba natives like Arnish Patel (MB), member of Team Manitoba and the 2017 Junior National Team.

“Badminton Canada is happy to award the 2019 Yonex U23 & Junior National Championships to Badminton Manitoba and the city of Winnipeg” said Anil Kaul, President of Badminton Canada. “The Canada Games Sport for Life Centre is a world class facility that is fantastic for hosting large events, like the Yonex U23 & Junior National Championships. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Badminton Manitoba in order to provide the best experience for our athletes and our badminton communities.”
